As I mentioned in my ultra-spectating blog post yesterday, I went back to the rec centre to renew both my pass and my swimming efforts. Prior to the pandemic I had both of those things as a steady effort, including an annual pass to the city's recreation facilities and a regular lane swimming schedule. But then everything shut down... hard. The pool was closed for something like 6 months and even then you needed an appointment to go in. So I didn't. Call this effort a reintroduction, but I've now committed $366 (a staff discount rate) to a year of pool time and that means a lot of laps. I did just fifteen or so lengths last night, my watch likely overcounting the distance, but my tally about right, and then went for a long steam. Slept like a baby.
