out of the city

Alberta is a big, diverse province with a bunch of great places to run. All of them usually involve a drive to a nearby city, the mountains, or one of the great natural areas a long or short drive away.

Nordic Adventure

An hour and a half of cross country skiing is always a great post-downhill shakeout.

We crashed out last night after our ski trip to Sunshine. It was almost 8am before I opened my eyes and deigned to crawl out of bed. I cooked some breakfast, had a cup of tea, and by 10am we were about ready to drive up to the Nordic Centre here in Canmore for some mountain adventures.

A Day of Sunshine

Our annual downhill ski trip took us to the mountains for the weekend.

I played ski dad, watching the speedy skiers race past me on most hills as I trailed behind the Kid who is still a lot cautious about her abilities — which are actually pretty solid considering she’s only skied a half dozen times in her life.

A lot of green runs, a handful of blue and one trip to the very summit of the Great Divide at about 2800m of elevation and a helluva view of the world below as the wind bellowed and we started our full decent.
